This is our most challenging class. You should be comfortable going to the full expression of the pose in general yoga classes before considering this one. Once you are comfortable in the full expression of the pose and you want to add a little spice to your practice give this one a chance. This is a small group class. Since their is another class at the same time it will not be subbed out when the teacher is away.
In a back-care yoga class, we focus on creating space in the low back, strengthening the core, opening the hips, and releasing the shoulders. Some classes may focus on one of these areas. However, all classes with have a mixture of these actions.
The gentle class is created for students that do not want to get on the floor. We focus on opening the joints, building balance and moving in ways that make your body stronger. This is a great class to start with.
This general yoga class pairs movement with the breath to align body and mind. A beneficial practice for beginners to experienced.
Gentle movements and a mind body connection make this class a student favorite. You will only have to get up from the floor once in this class.
Restorative Yoga helps you rest, relax & renew. We use props to fully support the body. This allows you to release into the pose for a longer hold and greater relaxation. We hold poses anywhere from 5 - 30 minutes.
In Yin we hold the poses longer to release tension in the connective tissue. Most yin postures are done seated or laying down. We hold the poses from 1 - 10 minutes with the muscles fully relaxed. You only need to get up from the floor once in this class since there are no standing positions.
This yoga class is open to all levels of yoga experience. It is free for unlimited members. Others are asked to make a donation that will benefit the hot meals program at the VAC. Please bring your friends!
25% of Men and 55% of women over 50 have bone density issues. Yoga helps strengthen bones. We have seen several of our students that committed to a regular yoga practice be downgraded from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia. So, if you already have bone density issues this class is for you. If you don't have bone density issues this class is still for you. We will do Dr. Fishman's sequence to strengthen bones every week. Sarah is certified in Yoga for Osteoporosis by Dr. Fishman.
